The legislation also seeks to encourage electronic health records to improve the efficiency and quality of the US healthcare system through improved information sharing. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-tab-title elementor-tab-mobile-title\" aria-selected=\"false\" data-tab=\"3\" role=\"tab\" tabindex=\"-1\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-1743\" aria-expanded=\"false\">HITECH<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-1743\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"3\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-1743\" tabindex=\"0\" hidden=\"hidden\"><p><strong>Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hhs.gov\/ocr\/privacy\/hipaa\/administrative\/enforcementrule\/hitechenforcementifr.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">HITECH<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> expanded the HIPAA rules in 2009. HIPAA and HITECH together establish a set of federal standards intended to protect the security and privacy of PHI. These provisions are included in what is known as the &#8220;Administrative Simplification&#8221; rules.
