Fitness won’t earn you a title but being unfit can lose you one. In his talk at the 2017 Kitman Labs European Summit, high performance expert Aled Walters discusses the power of purpose behind a player’s fitness. In his talk, Walters shares his belief in program specifity and how this can strongly transfer to impact on-field performance.
ABOUT ALED WALTERS
From Carmarthenshire in Wales Aled joined Munster at the start of the 2012/13 season as Senior Strength & Conditioning Coach.
He previously worked with Super Rugby side Brumbies as an Athletic Performance Coach, and previous to that was the Head of Strength and Conditioning at Taranaki Rugby in New Zealand.
Aleds’ qualifications include an MSc in Strength and Conditioning from the University of Edinburgh and a BSc from Loughborough University in Physical Education and Sport Science.
Walters was the Strength and Conditioning Coach on the Emerging Ireland tour to Romania for the IRB Nations Cup in June 2014 and was promoted to Munster Rugby Head of Fitness at the start of the 2014/15 season, with a title change to Head of Atheltic Performance at the start of the 2016/17 season, (Munster, 2018).
For the 2018 Season, Walters is said to be moving into a performance role within South African Rugby Union.
